Hatha Yoga is a practice to balance both nadis and the channels. The human body consists of two channels or nadis, the right channel is also known as Pingala Nadi and the left channel is also known as Ida Nadi. Pingala Nadi is associated with solar energy while the Ida Nadi is associated with lunar energy.
When both the nadis are balanced, it offers great health and wellness to the human body. The practice of hatha yoga was first discovered by the lord Shiva and was later carried forward by Naths and Siddhas. Hatha Yoga includes practicing various postures with a variety of breathing techniques.
But Hatha yoga is more than just stretching! It's a journey towards a state called Samadhi, where you're free from worries and confusion. Here's a secret: Hatha yoga works with your body's energy channels. By balancing the sun and moon energy (pingala and ida nadi), it helps purify them. Think of Hatha yoga as a simpler version of Raja yoga, without the rules (yamas) and self-discipline practices (niyamas). Ashtanga Yoga as the name suggests comprises eight limbs, Asta is a Sanskrit word meaning eight in English and Anga means limb. The eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga are referred to as the branches of the yoga sutra including Yama (moral code), Niyama (self-discipline), Asana (posture), Pranayama (breath control), Pratyahara (sense withdrawal), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation, and Samadhi (oneness with self).
