Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, also known as classical n yoga, was popularized by K. Pattabhi Jois in the 20th century. Ashtanga refers to the eight limbs of yoga, with asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing) being just two of them. Sharath Jois, K. Pattabhi Jois's grandson, encourages the practice of all eight limbs. The first two limbs, Yamas and Niyamas, are given special priority to be practiced in conjunction with the 3rd and 4th limbs (pranayama and asana). Ashtanga yoga has been named after the eight limbs of the yoga sutras of Patanjali.
Pranayama classes cover various techniques such as Kapalbhati, Shithkari, Bhastrika, Shithali, and Bhramari. Mysore-style classes on Saturdays allow learners to improve their practice without direct guidance from the teacher, although adjustments will be made if needed.
To be eligible for the course, one must have a sincere desire to learn and the discipline to attend all classes. A minimum of six months of recent Ashtanga or Hatha yoga practice is required. This intense experience helps develop a strong foundation of inner discipline.
Ashtanga Vinyasa offers a range of physical, mental, and spiritual benefits:

To give your mind some exercise, here is some recommended reading to get you prepped and inspired.
Bali is the closest thing to Rishikesh you will find outside India for a 200-hour Ashtanga foundation. Our Ubud shala sits in the rice-paddy heartland of central Bali, where the air is warm year-round and Balinese Hindu daily life is happening on every street corner. For beginners stepping into yoga teacher training for the first time, the tropical climate is a quiet but important advantage: stiff bodies open faster at 28 degrees Celsius than they ever will in a cold mountain studio, and there is no winter dip to disrupt your asana progression across the 22-day course.
What surprises most first-time visitors is how deeply Hindu Bali still is. Balinese Hinduism is a distinct living branch of the tradition you study on the mat. You will walk past canang sari offerings each morning, hear the gamelan during full-moon Purnama ceremonies, and our philosophy modules anchor concepts like dharma and bhakti in the rituals you can see practised one street over from the shala. It is a different cultural lens on the same lineage Yogi Kamal teaches in Rishikesh.
Off the mat, the geography rewards rest days. Tegallalang's rice terraces are 15 minutes north, the Tirta Empul holy spring temple sits an hour away for purification ceremonies, and the Mount Batur sunrise hike fits into a single weekend window. Ubud itself anchors a vibrant international wellness ecosystem of cafes, traditional warungs, healers, and bookshops, so your hours outside class feed the practice rather than distract from it.
Tropical, 25-30 degrees C year-round; dry season April-October.

Balinese Hindu - daily canang sari offerings, temple ceremonies, gamelan.

Airport, ground transport, visa logistics and local mobility for your YTT in Bali, Indonesia.
Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar is Bali's only international gateway, ~45 km from our Ubud-area campus. The drive takes 1.5–2 hours by taxi depending on traffic, costing IDR 350,000 (~USD 22). Direct flights connect Bali to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Sydney, Doha, and most major Asian hubs.
From Europe or the Americas, transit via Singapore (SIN), Doha (DOH), Hong Kong (HKG), or Tokyo (HND). Visa on arrival is available for most nationalities at IDR 500,000 (~USD 35).
Bali has no train network. From DPS airport you can choose between official airport taxis (fixed-rate, IDR 300,000–400,000), pre-booked private cars via Grab/Gojek (cheaper at IDR 200,000–280,000), or our scheduled school transfer.
Within Bali, Gojek and Grab ride-hail apps dominate (IDR 15,000–60,000 for most rides). Scooter rental is widely available (IDR 70,000–120,000/day) — bring or apply for an International Driving Permit; helmet is mandatory.
Pre-arranged pickup from Ngurah Rai (DPS) costs IDR 350,000 (~USD 22), payable in IDR or USD on arrival. Confirm pickup at least 48 hours before arrival by emailing your flight details to [email protected]; drivers wait at Arrivals with a school placard bearing your name.
Bali's dry season runs April through October (28–32°C, low humidity, minimal rain) — the most comfortable window for outdoor practice. November to March is rainy season: warm but very wet afternoons. Bali sits in the WITA timezone (UTC+8); jet lag recovery typically takes 2–3 days for travellers from Europe or the Americas.

Doing my RYT-200 in Ubud meant practising in a rice paddy at dawn and walking past temple offerings every morning. Tattvaa's Bali cohort was small (14 of us) and the teachers integrated Balinese Hindu ritual context into the philosophy modules. Different to Rishikesh - more tropical, more international - but the lineage rigour was the same.
I chose Bali specifically because I needed warmth - coming from Munich winter, the Himalayan cold was a non-starter. The 200-hour was structured the same as the Rishikesh syllabus but the open-air shala overlooking rice terraces made the long days feel restorative rather than exhausting.
Came to Tattvaa Bali for the 200-hour as a complete beginner. The smaller cohort meant the teachers could actually see your alignment on every pose, the tropical climate kept my body open through long Mysore mornings, and the philosophy modules grounded everything in the Balinese Hindu rituals we were living alongside.
